I. Wedding Photography Website

For my own photography business, I wanted to create a website that reflected both my documentary storytelling work and my personalized approach. Over time, I have developed a consistent brand that is clear, empathetic, and intentional. I wanted site users to have an experience that parallels what working together would feel like: simple and intuitive — with a touch of playfulness.

I started by building a site structure that was SEO-friendly and considered the different stages of the consumer journey, wrote and refined and re-wrote copy, selected brand-relevant visuals, and then designed each section to be desktop and mobile-friendly. This site was initially intended for a Bay Area-based audience, and I have recently optimized it for the local Oxford and Memphis markets.

II. Client Guide

I developed this guide to serve as a planning tool for newly-booked wedding clients. Its primary purpose was to educate clients on common scenarios and pain-points, alleviate planning stress, and re-establish photography expectations while positioning myself as a knowledgeable and supportive resource throughout their experience. I was careful to balance providing specific tips with maintaining a more flexible overall stance.

This is written under the same brand as my website, and I purposefully took a more relaxed tone with this guide to better suit my audience: helpful, affirming, and friendly.

Kimberly Martin is a licensed marriage and family therapist and owner of Kindness Matters Therapy, a private practice based in San Bruno, CA. Kimberly is in the early stages of launching her practice, and I am supporting with copywriting and website development and will ultimately place a heavy emphasis on SEO-optimization.

I started by analyzing all of her current web content to identify common themes and overall messaging. From there, I am sending a questionnaire to further refine her goals and vision, collect brand specifics, identify pain points, and narrow in on her intended target audience.

At a Glance

Like most small businesses starting out, KM's website is full of heart and purpose but has a few gaps in overall structure and strategy.

First, I will reorganize the content hierarchy before diving in to refine the copy in order to speak more directly to potential clients. As we continue through the process and as she builds out her brand, I will continue to make the language more more specific and direct.
First, I've changed the site menu to make it clear for users who are at different stages of their search (e.g., changing "We're Here For You" to read "Services"). Next, I'm capitalizing on the critical "above the fold" section by putting a face with the brand, clearly identifying what service she provides, and naming her intended audience.
I've simplified KM's "why" into an easy-to-skim section that that speaks directly to her audience and is paired with a clear CTA.
I changed this section to share some background on the practice's mission and provide more concrete information on what and how KM Therapy can support clients.
I will expand this page to include a "Services" summary section that will have clear CTAs to be directed to more information. This initial mockup also includes revising the call-to-action to stand out and adding a simple site footer with navigation and contact information.
